Antiseptic hands cleaner for disinfection of skin and hands before surgery

Hydrex S is for cutaneous use only. The medicine contains the active substance chlorhexidine digluconate, which exhibits a broad-spectrum activity against Gram positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as against some viruses and fungi. For use as an antiseptic agent for washing hands, hand skin disinfection before surgery and skin disinfection before surgery.

Do not use Hydrex S:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to chlorhexidine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • for disinfecting body cavities.

Take special care with Hydrex S

The medicine is for use on the skin only. Hydrex S must not come into contact with brain tissue and meninges. Protect your eyes and ears from the medicine. The medicine coming into contact with the middle ear may cause hearing loss. Use caution when applying the medicine to the head. In the event of contact with the eyes or mucous membranes, flush immediately with plenty of water.


Using other medicines

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using or have recently used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. There are no data available on interactions with other medicines.


Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.


Driving and operating machinery

The effect of Hydrex S on your ability to drive or operate machinery is not known.


Important information about some of the ingredients of Hydrex S

The medicine may cause allergic reactions resulting from hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine digluconate, dialkylamine oxide or cochineal red. The medicine contains ethyl alcohol contaminated with methyl alcohol.

Use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure about this, ask your doctor.


How to use:

For external use only – topical application to the skin.


As an antiseptic agent for hand washing

  • wet hands and forearms with water
  • then apply 5 ml of the medicine to them and rub into the skin for 1 minute
  • thoroughly rinse your hands and forearms with water and then dry them.

Disinfection of hands before surgery

  • wet hands and forearms with water
  • then apply 5 ml of the medicine to them and rub into the skin for 1 minute, cleaning the fingernails with a brush
  • then rinse your hands and forearms with water
  • re-apply 5 ml of the medicine to them and rub into the skin for 2 minutes
  • thoroughly rinse your hands and forearms with water and dry them.

Pre-operative skin preparation

  • the day before the operation, after taking a bath, wash lightly moistened skin of the whole body with 25 ml of the medicine
  • special attention should be paid to the area of the navel, armpits, groin and perineum. Then rinse the whole body thoroughly with water and dry with a clean towel
  • the procedure described should be repeated on the day of the operation.

If you use more Hydrex S than you should

Chlorhexidine penetrates the skin poorly. If the medicine is ingested, medical assistance should be sought immediately. The doctor will apply gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment appropriate to the patient’s clinical condition.

Like all medicines, Hydrex S can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. This medicine may cause allergic reactions resulting from hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine digluconate, cochineal red or alkylamine oxides, especially after repeated use.

If any of the side effects get serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Keep out of sight and out of reach of children.
Store below 25°C.
Shelf life: 3 years.

Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

Do not throw away any medicines via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need. These measures will help protect the environment.

What Hydrex S contains

Active substance:

100 g of skin cleanser liquid contains 3.876 g of chlorhexidine digluconate.

Excipients:

glycerol, dialkylamine oxide, methyl alcohol contaminated with ethyl alcohol, hydroxyethyl cellulose, fragrance, cochineal red (E 124), purified water.

Hydrex S is a skin cleanser liquid.

Packaging:

bottles containing 250 ml or 500 ml of skin cleanser liquid or a canister containing 5,000 ml of skin cleanser liquid.
